Do you take dogs in?
Yes, when we have the room, and if they meet our criteria. We will consider dogs from western Washington who are 8 years old and older, altered, housebroken and not aggressive with people. We always have a waiting list for foster homes (both temporary and permanent). We are always willing to post a dog that meets those criteria on our website and help refer adopters to you. We are unable to help you if you live outside our geographic area.

How long does it take to get a foster home spot?
We're not likely to be able to take a dog immediately. The time to find a suitable spot depends on the dog's needs and what homes open up.

My dog doesn't get along with other dogs, can you help me?
All of our foster homes have other dogs, most -- but not all -- have cats. If your dog isn't comfortable with other dogs we can post him for you on our web site, but probably cannot take him in ourselves.

Where do the dogs you take live?
In foster homes, all over western Washington; many are at our "home base" in Arlington. We do not have a shelter or kennel, and all of our dogs live with a family.

Can we come see the dogs available for adoption?
We do not have a facility or a kennel; the dogs in our care are either in a foster home (and these are located from Blaine all the way south to Vancouver) or with their owner or rescuer. Sometimes they are in an area shelter or foster home run by another rescue group that has asked us to help them by posting a dog on our web site. If the dog is in a shelter, please contact the shelter to make arrangements to meet the dog. (We strive to take dogs from shelters as soon as we can, so please make sure the dog is still in the shelter before visiting.) We can refer you to make an appointment with a foster family after you have completed an adopters questionnaire - please contact us by email or 'phone.

Can we come visit ODH?
"Home base" is our office, our home, and home to 15 (or more) of our dogs. We try to limit visitors; it's hard on the dogs and tricky with our very busy schedule. But occasionally we can make an appointment on Sunday afternoons. Please contact us as far in advance as possible and be understanding if we cannot accomodate you on a specific date.

What can I do to prepare my dog if OldDog Haven has a spot for him or her?
Although this is something we will discuss with you in detail when arrangements are made, we stress the importance of a preliminary vet exam so we or the foster home knows what to expect. And obtaining all vet records for us is a big help.

Can I donate online?
Yes, we have a PayPal account accessible HERE.

Why don't the numbers of dogs you list weekly add up to the dogs posted on your web site?
Some of the dogs we are dealing with don't appear on our web site while they are being evaluated. Often the foster family will find an adopter themselves, so a dog may show up as a "Happy Ending" without being listed on our Adoptable page.

What kind of volunteer opportunities do you have?
Foster and Final Refuge homes are the biggest need, so we can take dogs out of shelters quickly. We also have people who transport dogs from place to place (watch our main page for a plea for transport volunteers). There is always a pile of paperwork, of course. During the warm months we try to have a presence at local dog-related fairs and festivals, and we sometimes need help to greet people and explain our mission. If you are interested in volunteering, please email us at olddoghaven @ verizon.net and use "I Am Interested In Volunteering" as the subject line. Thank you!
