Some of these stories are sad, for sure. But we are comforted knowing that these wonderful dogs died knowing they were wanted and loved. Your support makes this possible. Thank you.

Bailey
Bailey's end really shows what we are about: her internal problems might never have been diagnosed in a large shelter with limited resources to observe this type of decline. But she died in a calm place, knowing she was safe and loved. Your support made her ending as good as it could have been.

Sandie
Sandie spent her final 5 months in a loving foster home and died quietly on her bed without any symptoms that something was wrong. A peaceful end for her.

Brandy

Beethoven

Riley
Riley succumbed to a number of problems including a ruptured uterus, heart problems, and serious infection -- it was too much for even this brave girl to overcome, despite the efforts of her foster family and vet. She had such a happy final three months in her new home, after a last-minute rescue from a shelter, and will be missed terribly.

Sugar
Dear little Sugar faded after brightening our home base for four months -- a combination of cancer and back pain finally became too much for her. She was a dear little dog; her place on the bed will be very empty.

Shiva
After a wonderful final six months, Shiva's severe arthritis no longer responded to any of the treatments available, and her GI system shut down. She had such a happy time with her foster family -- a really happy ending for a grand old lady.

Alfred
Alfred died when congestive heart failure just overtook him despite a barrage of drugs.

Betram
After a joyous few months with us, Bertram's body just couldn't go any longer. He was admired by so many, loved his romps in the pasture, was almost able to get that third tennis ball in his mouth, and had a wonderful time at the beach. We loved him a lot and will miss his happy spirit.

Eric
Eric was just too old to fight back from having been starved; his little body couldn't recover. We hope his five weeks with us made up for part of the neglect he suffered, and that he understood that he was loved at the end.

This poor dog's suffering from obesity should be a warning to us all: being overweight can doom your dog.

Richard
After too short a time with us, Little Richard's kidneys gave out and he became so confused. We hope he had a comfortable last few days with us.

Jefferson
His foster family cared for and loved him until his body just couldn't deal with the damage epilepsy had caused. He was a dear little dog that everyone adored.

Fred
Fred's physical problems were finally too much for him and he was sent on his way with love.

Reggie
Deaf and blind Reggie only lasted about a month in his Final Refuge home before heart failure took him to his next incarnation. His foster home made every effort to make his final days comfortable, and they were rewarded by seeing him come out of his shell at the end.

Angel
Angel died while in foster care on Christmas day, knowing how much she was loved at the end.

Jessie
Jessie joined her friend Angel when she died in the same foster home in early January, 2006. A tough few weeks for the loving family that gave these two dogs a safe place during their final weeks.

Desi
Much-loved Desi laid down on his fluffy bed shortly after 2006 started and peacefully died. On New Year Day he joined us and a few of his younger friends for a fun walk in the woods and then ADORED having some visiting kids lie with him and pet him for hours. We hope his last months were the best of his life. He helped make them great months for us.

Esther
Esther spent three weeks with us in December 2005 before it became obvious her kidneys had failed her. She loved our couch and we loved her.

Ozzy
Ozzy's condition worsened during his final week with us and we sent him on his way after Christmas.

Bismark
Bismark succumbed to his age-related illness in November 2005 in a loving foster home.

Shadoe
Boomer, Taylor, Grover and Shadoe were sent on their way with love in October, 2005. We miss them all very much.
